The program certainly isn't for a novice user who doesn't know their way around using software that will literally wipe the operating system and not just personal data which is all the OP seems to want to do. Depending on what OS the OP has recovery disks may be needed. In reality dban was abandoned long before June 2015, the latest version being just an update to try and iron out a few compatability issues.Īnd of course if dban does run successfully it will obliterate the operating system including any recovery partition. ![]() The last update of dban was in June 2015, the developer has now abandoned the project and in its place has developed a paid for version for business and enterprise use and has changed its name to Blancco Drive Eraser. ![]() The problem with dban is that it doesn't always work with more modern computers / laptops and so will often fail to run. I would honestly use dban to wipe the whole disk and then re-install the operating system.
